Your Facebook may ruin your career

So the final interview is done, you’ve just nailed it. You wanted this job so badly, because this company is growing so rapidly and has such an appealing culture.

They told you they’d get back to you in couple, and you’re already scheduling the appointment in BMW to talk about the options to lease that fancy X5. You’re so confident that the offer is in your pocket: even the Director has just sent you a friend request on Facebook.

So you receive an email. Finally! Offer! But wait a sec.. that must be a horrible mistake. “Unfortunately, we will have to retract the offer due to a cultural misfit.” What do they mean? We were almost discussing a dinner at my house!

Completely confused and furious, you are dialling your Recruiter’s number, and you hear: the reason IS YOUR FACEBOOK.

-My Facebook? You must be joking. I barely post anything.

-yes, but you repost, and comment…

My friends, this story is real.

The morale here is: nowadays every professional Recruiter/Hiring Manager WILL Google your name, and check your social media.

The higher the role, the more thorough the check is. I’ve seen very unfortunate stories with candidates of different levels of expertise - from C-suits to Administrators, who didn’t get a job because they posted inappropriate stuff on Insta.

I am not gonna expand on what exactly was on the character’s Facebook page, I’ll let you guess.

Also - what do you think could be considered inappropriate on your social media?
